Just Playing

I was messing last night making a trial run of a bee block.  You see, I am Miss September in the Modern Irish Bee.  I have my fabric pulled from my stash, but I waned to give one of my potential blocks a test run.  Want to see it?


I think it's super pretty.  I think it would be a very dark quilt, though.  It's a bit too much Kona Pepper for me. Still, I do really like the idea, the pattern, the size and my stash fabrics.  I might be onto something....

    I love it! I am playing around with black homespun this weekend! If you added borders of the coloured squares, that would help break up the blackness!

    Oooh, I love this! I see what you mean about if maybe being too much overall, but could you maybe mix it up with blocks with varying shades of grey for the background as well?

    the block is amazing even if this would be a challenge fie me. but i would use a lighter background. i am a fan if black but not in quilts. maybe a dark blue? just to give an other possibility than grey...

    Keep it as is Cindy that is one humdinger ! You can always add a bit of colour with quilting - especially cotton perle in the middle!

    Hi I love it, I've seen this block with a white background too and fell in love with it. Love any quilting that deals in negative space.

    i really like it. But it would be a lot of black. I think it depends what you plan to do with it & where you would use it. It would be a stunning wall hanging, and using it that way would show off all the blocks at the same time. What would it look like if there was a colorful block in the center? It would decrease the black, but also the drama. And yes, it needs a scrappy border.

    It looks great even with the dark background. You don't see many quilts around with dark backgrounds, but it's a great effect =D

    I too like Katy's idea of a number of greys and blacks but it would also look great with any number of other solids. Remember Hadley's quilt with that aqua blue solid.

    Can you change the outside fabric but keep the inner fabric and hopefully keep the drama ? Just a thought .

    Great block. I was thinking colored, pieced sashing, but you could also do no sashing and quilt with multicolored variegated thread.

    Gorgeous! I love how the black makes all of the colors pop, but I agree the pepper might be a bit too much. Lovely though!
