I have discovered that I am not a straight line quilter. I like a little movement and activity while quilting. Otherwise my brain just gets numb and I can not stand to sit and quilt for too long. It's nearly a punishment. Here I chose to quilt each block individually, so lots of twisting and turning. I echo quilted around the center of each granny square, echo quilted around the central nine patch of the granny and then around the entire block into the sashing. I think you can see it better from the back.
Can you see it? This took no time at all and I was totally entertained. What more could you ask for?
I have just one small problem. No matter how I layered this one corner square and quilted, there was always a wrinkle. First it was on the left. Then I picked it out and re-layered, only to shift it to the right. I could not get rid of this silly bleb.
How concerned should I be? Will this disappear as soon as its bound and washed? Or is there a way to "tuck" in the extra material under the binding without causing a wrinkle? Anyone have ideas to share? Until my brain wraps itself around this little wrinkle, it will remain unbound. I can not get too far ahead of myself!
I will leave you with a photo of Clarkson. He is here next to me on the couch. He diligently spent the last 10 minutes crafting an igloo for himself out of Mod Logs. If he wasn't so darn cute I would shoo him off the couch. Instead I keep taking photos with my heart fluttering.

awww wee cutie in his quilty igloo... As for the bubble, hmmm... I'd just accept it since you've already unpicked and tried to fix once. A good wash and everything will go all crinkled and puffy, so even if it doesnt exactly disappear it'll stop standing out so much.

I agree with Sarah. I don't think that little bleb is that big of a deal! BUT you know my theory! LOL
It is lovely, the colours are just gorgeous. As for the bleb I would leave it. I don't think you will notice it once it is washed and fabulously wrinkly

It's gorgeous, very effective.
Ditto Sarah, but another thing you can try is to press it right before you stitch the binding down. I was raw edge appliqueing some circles onto a quilt one time and they kept wanting to shift and pucker like that. I ripped just a couple of inches out and pressed the puckered spot and then restitched and like magic they stayed flat and didn't pucker under the stitches. I don't know how it helped but it really did!
If it really bothers you, try making a small pleat. If you make it very straight it will end up looking like a seam.

I agree with Cindy- a pleat will merge more with the seams when it's washed! It's very pretty though!!!!
Awesome looking quilt! I'm loving the colour scheme! The quilting looks very effective against the backing. I've never machine quilted, though hand quilting can give that effect sometimes too. Once you wash it, it should be fine =D

I still need to quilt my granny and it's a big one. I might follow your lead. As far as the extra fabric, I imagine after it's bound and washed you won't even notice it
It will just be a crinkle in all the crinkles. The quilt is wonderful, I am so excited to get grannies of my own.
It might end up disappearing into the quilt but the only solution I could think of was to turn it into a dart (sew the dart on the inside of the quilt). The you will see the seam but the fabric will lay flat??

Love your kitty photo! I think your crinkle will blend in and I like Dolores' idea but you could also run a gathering thread very close to your raw edge and very slightly gather that little part evenly over that piece and that will make it easier to sew your binding on without sewing it down in one spot. Then when you wash it should just be a little crinkly like the rest of the border will be.
It is gorgeous and that tiny thing will not notice at all - enjoy what is right about this fabulous quilt!

You could gather it by hand with thread before you sew on the binding (as Sooli said), or use pins, or just do it by eye as you sew. It won't be noticible at all after it's washed. Gorgeous quilt!

Yay for finding a quilting style that suits you. As for the feature, embrace it and I'm sure it'll look fin in the wash!

Your quilt is beautiful! I love grannies and the grey backround is great. About the border: I think it was Rebecca's "101 Cuilt Class" (www.chasingcottons.blogspot.com) where I learnt how to add border andwe strecth the fabric just a little bit. I guess when we quilt the main pieace, the border remains 'bigger' and looks fluffy. If I were you, I would strecth the binding just a little bit to 'collect' the border (not too much). After the washing all the quilt has wrinkles so it wouldn't bother me also on the border.
