The sun was shining in Galway
this weekend. As it comes out so
infrequently, I was just dying to get outside.
But I also really wanted to sew.
What to do? What to do? Move your sewing machine out to the back
garden, of course! I packed her up along
with my Chaos scraps and moved the whole show out to the picnic table. I was a chain piecing maniac out there. It was very breezy, so basic piecing was
about all I could do.
Since the hens have had a few awful run-ins with the local
dog, I now only let them out when I am around to supervise. So, this lady joined me for a long
while. It was a great sunny afternoon out
for everyone!
Once back, inside I focused on my paper pieced block for
Hilary. Hilary and I are in Sew &Bee Happy together and she wanted us to help make a quilt for her son’s 21st
birthday. What a great quilt to be a
part of! Hilary went to the time to
design a block and template for paper piecing that are now available on her
blog along with a really great tutorial.
This is possibly the most complicated block I have ever
attempted. It is not perfect, but I am
quite pleased with how it came together.
Keep your eyes pealed…many more bee blocks to come later
this week!

that's a great idea! sewing outside... could never do it myself as it's aways so windy here. Your hen is lovely! a Barred Rock like our Kona. How are they settling in? a part from the dog...
Oh I would have loved to do the same.. I just sat out the back on my banana lounge instead and soaked those rays up....Great weekend wasn't it!
Love that you took your machine outside! Hope that not too many bits of fabric blew away.
Sewing al fresco! Perfect. Di x
Great post Cindy
Have a great great weekend
Lots of love

The bee block is incredible! That's going to be an amazing quilt!
what a great idea!! I can totally run an extension cord to the porch off the apt, though, its in the front of the house and the neighborhood will likely think i'm crazy... hehe

Sewing machine at the picnic table and chooks running about on the lawn.... *sigh* bit jealous.... lol
ROFLMAO, love it, sewing on the picnic table with mad hens running around in the background :oD
Wow sewing outside that's a new one. Hope it wasn't windy. =D
Sounds like fun. Why are your chickens picking on the local dog?
What a great idea. I often have to choose between sunshine and sewing room - now I see that with a bit of effort I could have both!
Have you trained the hens to catch any fly away fabric?
I have done that before. Especially when it was really hot! We once lived in a house with a beautiful vine covered pergola that was the coolest place on extreme days (sometimes it was so hot where we lived that the air con struggled to keep the house cool in the afternoons) We would set up fans to help cool us and every now and then would go for a quick dip in the pool and then back to the shade and the sewing!
I hope you weren't too windswept by the time you came back inside! Poor chooks, I hope the local dog gets a peck on his nose and learns his lesson...
Nice way to have best of both worlds...sewing and some summer sun.
What a great idea to move your machine outside! And being able to watch your chicken must have just added to your day :-)
