In the end, who cares? I will carry on. As you can see, I still have not properly re-adjusted my scrappy border and instead have just started to piece my next border. I have fallen in love with these little fussy cut square in a square blocks. These finish at 4 inches and are paper pieced. It takes me no time to whip one up, so I am sewing little blocks when walking by the sewing room, between dinner and the dishes, etc. Having such a nice, quick, easy, rewarding block has been wonderful.
Do we like this? Or no? Too busy? They can always go on the back....
And what do you think of the LV scrappy look? I'm trying my hardest, but really stunk at it last time. Is it working this time?
This is my first time fussy cutting fabric. It is awfully wasteful and I am not entirely convinced it is worth it, but for these blocks its a necessity. Want to see some of my favorites?
And, of course, a bit of Heather Ross. These are the only two prints I have of hers. Both are incredibly special to me as I'm a big camper and little frogs/tadpoles have a special place in my heart. I nearly wish I made the entire border out of fussy cuts from these two prints, but it is too late now!
Is it just me, or do those little birds look hungry?!?! |

WELL... to me it looks great x I love the colour combinations and the scrappy manic look is just so much fun x BUT ... you are the one living with it xx
If you could wait for the 'slow post' from Oz, I'd be happy to send you a caravan and another couple of HR prints I have! Just let me know what size those centre pieces are! It's looking great, BTW!
Keep the scrappy, looks amazing already
I definitely think your LV is working, but what do YOU think? I tend to like low volume everywhere, so maybe I'm not a good judge :-)
Fussy cutting is absolutely wasteful! I hate doing it, but sometimes you just need to. I mean if you didn't fussy cut your centres would just be sheep butt and bumper bars :-) I agree with the above though, put out a call for whatever size you need for your centres and see them all flood in. I'll find you something from my stash to add to your border.
I like the little squares, I don't think they're too busy at all. If you still need to fix your size, I'd add a skinny solid dark border. Like a really dark brown or grey...
I think this is going to look beautiful :-)

Navy!! Super skinny navy! To pull from your centre star points!

I like! I know exactly what you mean about the fussy cut-able fabrics, I just don't have many of those in my stash either, so an economy-block-along quilt is definitely not in my future!
What about your Japanese charm squares from the swap? Definitely some fussy cuts available in there. I love fussy cut work, but I am really bad at it - always a little bit missing, or off-centre.
LOVE the border and your lv is working beautifully. I wouldn't worry too much about sizings, either. I tried really hard to keep my cutting and seams all perfect for my Marcelle and still had to fudge some borders!! Just enjoy pulling fabrics and all those little spots of sewing in your day. It's looking brill, Cinders!!
I love it! Don't you dare put those blocks on the back!! The fussy cuts are so worth it and the lv is totally working!
I think it's terrific! The LV background is definitely working - I think variety (and lots of it!) is the keep to a successful LV background and yours is certainly successful! I love the square in a square border - don't you dare put that on the back...we'll be checking ;o)
I adore where you're going with this! Love it all so far. I fussy cut a lot and it's very wasteful but so worth it. I can send you some fussy cuts if you want, I tend to have a lot of fabrics and can have a dig around... Let me know what size
If going scrappy the rule is if in doubt add more fabrics! It looks great no need to change anything! Just keep doing what you're doing and yes yes yes to the skinny navy border !
Love it - the fussy cuts are perfect xxx
They get my vote, And the blue birdie background fabric in the last pic will make a good fussy cut too! Jxo
Looks great! Love those little blocks :)
Those blocks are perfect to go with this.
I am loving this! Excited to see where you are going with it :)
Cindy! This looks so fresh and vibrant! Perfect to warm up and light up your life in rainy Ireland. I love it and I don't think it's too busy at all. Congrats on your wip!
Laughing here as you ask the questions I think! It's just amazing - ridiculously amazing - so just keep doing what you are doing girl.
I really love what you have done so far. Don't change a thing.
Don't even think about moving these to the back of the quilt! They're fab and I think you are overcoming your LV issues very well indeed. All looking beautiful!
GORGEOUS! That is all. :)
I think it is fabulous and am amazed.
I love it, all of it! Such beautiful colours.
these little fussy cuts are gorgeous, far too good for the back.
