Decisions, decisions

I could use your opinion, please.  I have two background color choices for my Liberty quilt and I don't know which to choose.  I would normally go for a Kona Bone, but I want to branch out and use an actual color in this quilt.

I had originally thought I would go with Kona Butterscotch.  I really like the little specks of yellow that are in the center of several flowers in the prints.  The Butterscotch color does really coordinate with the yellow in the flowers, but now that I put them all together it looks a bit dull.  I am just not convinced.

I also have Kona Grass that coordinates with the greens in the prints.  I like that a bit more, but it's quite bold and may be a big statement...that I am not entirely sure I am ready to make.

I envision a Kona Navy back and don't really have an idea for the binding yet.  Do any of these sing to you guys?  Or might you have another suggestion all together?  Thanks so much for sharing your ideas with me!

I rather like the butterscotch. It is a different choice, and makes the colours shine.

GReen is a no go! looks like it doesn't belong....Like the ash at the top but its a little sedate, navy would cry boredom and we that leaves the butterscotch that brings the colors to life. Final answer LOL! Kate

I too would not pick the green. Besides all else, it makes it look quite Christmassy. I would use the butterscotch or an aqua that would coordinate with the aqua in that top print on the right. I think all the prints have a bit of that aqua except the far left red. I have some of these and am trying to decide myself. Another choice might be one of your linens, the Essex in Ivory or natural would each be wonderful and have such a nice texture.

I'd think about pulling out a pink! But what the heck do I know? Try it and see...

I have had the same decision to make and have ended up with Jade. It is very rich and strong, but having just used butterscotch for a different project, I wanted a change. So, depending what else you are doing, look at something quite rich and strong- you may hate it though!

Ok I think I'm the only one who likes the green and I'm not a green person, I love orange. I also like the aqua or maybe red...sorry not much help :(

I agree not the green. I like the butterscotch too but hard without knowing the block. The liberty prints are stunning so its hard not to kill them with too much colour. Can't wait to see the final quilt even though I have been useless at helping your decision making.....

Light turquoise/aqua ?

Have to say I'd plump for the Butterscotch. I think it'll be easier on the eye, and works better with the Liberty prints across the whole range. I see what you're saying about the green, but I think THAT much zing, day in, day out, will soon wear a bit thin!! Can't wait to see finished quilt!! xx

well... I like the green! I dont like the butterscotch at all x maybe just the light! You are the one who sees the true colour ... and has to lve with it at the end of the day xxlol x

What about the pinky/purple which I can see in the fabric on the far right? It would be a bold statement but I think the navy/black backgrounds could take it! Look forward to seeing what you choose!

Not keen on either. Aqua would be good or the purple colour. Someone mentioned an Essex linen print which would be effective too. I am now going to sit back and watch what you pick! Di x

When I saw the photos - before I read what you'd written - my thoughts were "meh; oh no; heck no". (I hope that doesn't come over as rude!)

I might go for a pink or a lilac or a pinky lilac.

butterscotch is nice but I think I would go for some fuschia/pink purple. Hope this help

I prefer the yellow to the green but am not really wrapped in either of them! (iI'd probably go for white/bone myself but i don't know what you're making!) What about the teal-blue that is in most of the prints?

In between those three, I choose Butterscotch.
Orange, perhaps.

I am facing a similar quandary and was thinking navy (although I see someone has said that would be boring :-)) I think the butterscotch would work really well. Not so much the green.

I love green but not in this case!!! I initially dismissed the butterscotch, too, but having been for another look it might be lovely. Sort of vintagey. I'd be tempted to try an aqua, though (kona azure? ) or a pink. Its hard to not drown those pretty prints!

I would go with the green Cindy, it really pops

I also like the idea of light blue/aqua as a couple of other people have suggested.

I like the green, makes the colours pop but then I'm a brights person usually :)

Think the yellow kills the colours (not a big yellow fan), green bright but I am wondering about a bright pink or red.

The butterscotch is really working well with the navys! I'd be tempted to pull out an aqua - maybe one verging on the teal as opposed to the light side?

I have to say the first color that came to mind is aqua. I know Leanne already suggested it but it would be a choice worth looking at. I could live with the butterscotch though.

I like the butterscotch (not keen on the green) but who's to say you couldn't do a scrappy back and incorporate some libertry print scraps with the butterscotch and a little bit of green as well?! Looing forward to seeing what you decide :-)

I like the yellow, not the green so much. How about the aqua/turquoise?

I like the green & butterscotch. Did you try an aqua background? Jxo

The butterscotch appears to compliment the other fabrics beautifully where there green washes out and over powers the prints. I wouldn't rule out the bone either but the lovely hue of the butterscotch would be more of a departure towards colour. :)

I wouldn't vote for the butterscotch or the green. Can you post pictures with navy and some sort of aqua. Someone said Kona azure, and i think that is a good suggestion to try. Can you share any more about the pattern you are planning to use? Will the solid be in the blocks, or more of a frame (like the stained glass quilts).

I would definately choose the green! it has as much personality as the prints without stealing the show. I love bright green with navy :) add a bit of orange, maybe a very bright yellow, and I'm in love. looks like a five-alive juice box! :)

Mommarock said...

I would personally choose a red..

knottygnome said...

i like the yellow better. i think the green with all that color in the florals would be too in-your-face. in fact, it if were me, i'd probably pick an even paler yellow and let the prints shine. but that's just me.

Cindy Sharp said...

I see little bits of aqua or turquoise in your blocks. How would that look?

Jan said...

Of these two, I vote for Butterscotch.

Decisions, decisions! I've got my Kona card in front of me and the colours are completely different to in the photos on my screen so suggesting colours is going to be pot luck, I suspect! How about 'lagoon', 'water' or 'crocus'? I also want to suggest 'coral' but it might look ghastly with the reds!

Good luck!

I love the Butterscotch! Don't pick green. It's not working.

Katy Cameron said...

I actually like the green lol Try a light blue or pink as well :o)

Sarah said...

Sorry, I don't really like either of the colours with the collection. I'd try the light bright blue of some of the flowers. See what they look like on it and let us know!

I'm a bit behind the blog reader. You've probably made a decision by now but out of the three I prefer the butterscotch. Maybe the problem lies in that the solid is just too solid ie flat. Might work better with a cross-weave or linen type fabric. I don't mind the turquoise/aqua suggestion either.
