Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day 2013

Happy Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day!  I realize it may seem funny to you to think of an online shop as your LQS, but for  many bloggers and Irish quilters Fluffy Sheep Quilting has become just that.  It's your regular supplier of gorgeous fabrics, soft perle cotton and trusty Aurifil.  I am so grateful to this wonderful community of quilters that has accepted FSQ into their daily lives.  Thank you all.

If you have not already been to the shop, you can click here or use the button on the right hand side of the blog to have a peek.  Inside you'll find lots of Kona solid yardage and charm packs as well as super pretty bundles of FQs or F8ths...

Fluffy Sheep Quilting offers a wide variety of fresh, modern prints perfect for today's quilter.  You will find yardage, precut charms, jelly rolls and layer cakes as well as FQ bundles to match your personal style.

There is also a huge selection of DMC perle cotton with 17 colors now available and 4 others on the way.

And you can't forget good old trusty Aurifil, available both in 40 and 50 weight for your piecing and quilting needs.  You will find 78 different colors to choose from, including a wide selection of neutrals and variegated threads.

To show our appreciation for the Fluffy Sheep Quilting community, I'd like to offer a giveaway.  To the winner I will happily send 4 FQs of their choice. I'll ask you to leave a comment below telling me why you love having a LQS. Is it the inspirational quilts hanging on the wall?  The classes they teach?  Or just the ease of popping in to get that last bit of fabric for your binding?  Is your LQS online or in your neighborhood?   Before leaving your entry, please participate (if you are not already) in the FSQ online world by:

1. following the blog using the handy dandy widget thingy on the right of the home page
2. like the facebook page
3. follow the shop on twitter or...
4. sign up for the shop newsletter by entering your email address in the lower right hand corner of the shop page.

Fine print: One entry per person, please, and I must be able to contact you for your mailing address.  If you're a no-reply commenter, be sure to leave your email address in your comment.  Once I email you, you must reply by Sunday afternoon or I will choose another winner.  The winner will be drawn by RNG on Friday evening (25 Jan 2013).

Thank you, Fabric Shop Net, for organizing. This was great fun!

UPDATE: This thread is now closed to comments to allow me to draw a winner.  Good luck, everyone!

I follow you. I like shopping in person to touch the fabrics and find subtle shades. I like shopping online to find fabric lines that my LQS doesn't carry.

I have a LQS in the real world but it doesn't stock many *modern* quilting fabrics or products.

I find that the online shops that I frequent are far more like buying from friends and you have such a perfect selection.

I enjoy shopping in person, but seem to spend a whole lot more than i intended. Those darn fabrics jump into my cart when I'm not looking!

I love my LQS for the encouragement and advise she can give me. online shops are great for new inspiration.

I have a local shop, I wouldn't call it a LQS though, lots of other stuff too and not the friendliest staff, the selection is not great and a bit too traditional for me. BUT...Saints & Pinners are nearby so I can make an appointment and browse their online shop in person which is actually a bit dangerous!

no LQS and travelling to the city and coming home with substitutes is making me think I need an on line LQS!

My LQS doenst always do my kind of fabrics, but the staff are really lovely :-)

I like my LQS for friendly advice and classes! but they don't carry many modern fabrics!

I have three LQS's that I frequent as they all tend to carry very different fabric selections. They are all very helpful with instructions, classes and just general help. When it come to modern prints I visit my online LQS. I follow in every way listed, my twitter handle is Chanzy01.

Thank you for the giveaway! I follow you on "the fluffy sheep" on FB(https://www.facebook.com/anne.kaffeekanne.967/favorites). Living in Germany, it's not very easy to find a quilt-store. We do have fabric stores here, sometimes they have a little quliting sections, but mostly you can't get the cool modern prints (like moda or amy butler). So I shop online and your online shop is the first one I found within europe, so the shipping rates are better than the american ones. And I love Eire!!!
Love from Heidelberg, Germany

I have a local sewing shop (not a specialist quilting shop) that is within walking distance of work. It is great for me, but not for my purse, to be able to call in at lunch times and check out the latest deliveries of bargain fabrics.

My LQS is full of lovely older ladies who know absolutely everything there is to know about quilting. You can't ask a question in there without someone piping up with an answer. I also love being able to hold the fabric. I pull from the shelves and audition it it next to each other to see how it works as a quilt. Whereas inline I tend to just fill my cart with pretty things that won't actually work together as a quilt.
But online I do love FSQ. The service is always wonderful and speedy and friendly. :-)

Coming from Ireland it's very hard to find good quilt/fabric shops that have a different range so I do 90% of my fabric shopping online. I follow you and love your online store!

My LQS makes me appreciate online shopping!! It is great for emergency rotary blades and floss, but I haven't availed myself of the poly-cotton Christmas prints and lurex just yet xxx

I have an LQS I no longer visit and I miss being able to pop in and get the exact shade of thread I need - I love that online shops often have a better selection of fabrics (which suit my tastes) and the service is always fabulous!

I have no LQS *sniff* I do follow you on everything though :oD

My LQS closed down last year....I don't have one anymore! And with international postage going up all the time, looks like I'm on a fabric diet!

Indianna said...

My lqs is too expensive and so I love to shop on line. I do buy some solid fabric from them and have a chat as the ladies are helpful too.

Kirsten said...

I love visiting my LQS to see what others are making and it is easier to match colours IRL too.

Well cue the violins but I don't have an LQS here :-( but when I'm home I visit one half an hour or so from my mum's - I love the gadgets most of all and am always drooling over the different rulers. I usually pour over the books and have a pet of the fabric. Thanks for the giveaway Cindy - you have a gorgeous shop and I wish it so much continued success :-)

I like petting the fabrics in person. It's just a wave of color, which in itself is really inspiring.

I am getting to know my closets LQS better and I shop there for everything (but it is far more expensive than buying online, even after paying shipping). I also shop at your shop, which makes is another one of my LQSs, right? I follow you and will follow on twitter and I do get the newsletter and I don't facebook but we are well connected I think. Are you on instagram yet?

Rachelle said...

I like my LQS for the ability to grab something when I realise my stash is low in a particular colour, or to match something. Hard to do that online.

Janet said...

I like my one LQS for the classes and the fact that they have a basket where people can leave scraps for me. I like that they sell Aurifil. I don't like the fabric choices that much. I often go in there looking for some specific thing and they never have it. I am looking for a new on-line store to love since the US postage prices have doubled! I might be trying out your store soon.

Lynne said...

My LQS has great classes and the women who own it (a mum and daughter) are soooooooo friendly and helpful!

I think I follow you everywhere!
My LQS isn't that local since I rarely have the car so I mostly shop online. It would be great to have one nearer but then shops like yours make it so convenient to order online and take my time browsing :)

I'm a follower via Google Reader, Facebook and now GFC! :) I like my LQS because of the owners; they are fun, kind, helpful and such good people!

I am a follower of your blog. A small quilt shop just opened up over the holidays in my town. They are pretty traditional, but they have a couple of lines that appeal to me. I support them and hope for their success so there can be a more vibrant quilting community in my "real life" to supplement my online friends.

I have a haberdashery shop in the next town, but the fabrics are not good quality. I was able to do a bit of shopping in a real shop when I was in the uk at Christmas. What a dream. I was in heaven! Other than that it,s on line, but there is no substitute to touching and feeling fabrics, or seeing them all together on a shelf!

Well you know who my local fabric store is....for everyone else it is Fluffy Sheep Quilting. I always like shopping locally. I've got use to buying on line too. I love parcels coming through the mail too.

Our LQS closed and I'm devastated! I loved all the projects they had displayed, the classes and of course all the help they gave me. For now, I'll have to shop online.

I love my LQS because of their expertise in fabric choosing! I love it that they seem to know exactly what goes with what and are so willing to help a sister out...

I love my LQS because it gives me an opportunity to ogle all that beautiful fabric live and in person. I like to touch it and smell it! I love to be able to compare colors and make sure everything matches. Heaven!

DeborahGun said...

I follow by GFC! I would love to have a LQS - it is just so much easier to choose fabric when you can see it and touch it and play around with different combinations. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near a LQS so I am extremely grateful for online shops and am happy to have discovered yours. Thank you :-)

I support our local quilt shop because I think it is tremendous that our little town of 1500 people has its own quilt shop. It has changed hands a couple of times, and each time the new owner brings her own personality to it and her own charm. Currently there is a miniature schnauzer named Millie who greets all the guests, which makes me happy from the moment I walk through the door.

I follow you through GFC.

I love a local quilt shop because I love to touch and handle fabric still before I buy. I also love the smell of fresh fabric! I follow you on fb and in google reader.
