Devastated

Warning: this is not at all quilting, craft or happiness related.

Guys, I am just gutted.  My little best friend, my fluffy companion, my buddy boy has gone missing.

I was never a cat person before he came along. I'm still not really a cat person.  I just love this particular cat to bits.

For the past 2 years he's stayed either inside the house or in the back yard.  We had a PetSafe collar that would keep him right around us because we live in a housing estate/development wasteland and it's easy to get lost in a sea of similar backyards or hit on the busy roads.  We're moving to the country (1 Dec) and were so excited to give him the space he'd want to run aroud free.

Please help me find my buddy.  Has anyone lost a cat before?  Do you have advice to bring him home? I'm out calling for him at night and in the morning. I'm distributing fliers in every house in the 'hood today (about 400 of them) and I've emailed posters to all of the local pet stores and vets.  Any other hints, please?  What has worked for you?  Have you had indoor-ish cats re-appear several days later?

I have no advice, Cindy, but I do wish you the very best of luck. I hope he is home where he belongs as soon as possible.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Cindy!
I did used to notice that our cats would get really unsettled every time we started to pack up to move anywhere and go a little strange but I don't think either of them ever went missing.
Praying for his safe return for you!
Hugs!
Kat xx

Silly question, but have you checked all your out buildings?
Our Billy went missing (only for 24hours)he'd been shut in our own shed by mistake, he never made a sound when I was out shouting him and he could easily have got up to the window, have you contacted the local vets and RSPCA?...I do hope you find him.

So sorry to hear that. Maybe worth letting your local police station and animal rescue centres know in case someone finds him and takes him in. I do hope he turns up soon.

Oh C I'm so sorry your cat has gone missing. I had a cat which went missing for 6 wks not long after we got him. We had left a description of him with our local RSPCA and someone found him begging for food at her door and rang him im (he'd lost his collar!). I'll be praying your beloved cat turns up soon, hopefully he's just got sidetracked and will find his way home. Jxo

Sorry no advice Cindy - looks like you have done everything you can!

But my cats haven't liked change - they are clever knowing something is happening but sadly we cannot tell them what is going on!

I am hoping he makes his way back to you very soon!

Oh Cindy, that's aweful. My cat always gets unsettled if he thinks we are packing bags and hides, usually in the house tho'. You've done everything you can. I would check sheds and outhouses just in case he's been locked in, and ask your neighbours to check theirs too. I do hope he comes home soon. Keeping my fingers crossed for his safe return. Hugs Irene

Oh honey I know exactly how you must be feeling. My little beaker went missing for 5 days around christmas last year. I can only suggest you ask neighbours to check in sheds and garages, and to keep phoning the vets. You could go out in the dead of night and call too, it might be more quiet if buddy is scared and hurt?

Have hope, my beaker came home and I'm sure your buddy will xxx

Oh Cindy!! I am so very sorry. I do know exactly how you feel and it's one of the hurts ever! I don't have any advise other than what you're doing. I will keep your little furry cutie in my prayers and hope he comes home soon!!

Here is what I know. Cats are really good at not getting lost. They move away from their starting point in circles like a target so they can come back. But they like to explore. I would leave out food and water at the door, go out calling whenever you can and just sit outside a lot, check in buildings and under stuff. They often return after many days, don't give up!

Oh no, so sorry to hear that. I'm facing losing my two pups to a nasty disease (they've had a good run but they've been my babies for 11 years) so I can appreciate how you are feeling. Hope he comes home. But cats usually land on their feet. My friend moved house with the one she had adopted (or adopted her) and after she moved she noticed the cat had had stitches recently, which she hadn't got done, so seemed it had two owners... She feels bad but has no way of tracking them down and the cat is living a spoilt inside life now. There's always that possibility that he's in a lovely home...

Cindy i'm so sorry! - The same thing happened to our dog, you're doing everything i would recommend, keep up the positive thoughts!

Definitely call any local animal shelters -- if someone finds him and hasn't seen your posters that's probably where he'll end up. If it was me I could call them daily to see if he had been turned in.

I am late reading this so I hope puss has turned up safe and well, I know how you must be feeling.

That's just plain awful! My cat, who is mainly indoors, sometimes goes on "adventures" for a few days so I hope that kitty comes home soon! I'll be sending good thoughts your way!

It is always so sad when a pet goes missing. If he hasn't returned by the time you have to move, make sure you leave your forwarding address with neighbors and the new residents. We had a cat that disappeared for 3 months once - someone had apparently "adopted" her, at least temporarily, because she had been well fed during her absence. Keep the faith :)

I hope he turns up soon - my brother's cat went missing for a whole weekend and then came bolting through her cat flap on the Monday morning. They think she was locked in a shed/garage. I'll think 'go home' thoughts and keep my fingers crossed. Take care xx

Oh, Cindy, I'm so sorry! Does he like the sound of can opener? Our indoor kitty would escape when I was a kid (often to under our deck) but she couldn't resist the sound of can opener. My current one will come running when I shake a bag of treats. Definitely do the flyers. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Have you checked all the closets and small spaces? The current kitty also once was locked in a closet and had cried herself hoarse before we found her.

Katie said...

Oh no! I hope he makes it home soon.

Growing up, our cats would get out all the time and wander off. One of them would even knock out vents in the garage to wander outside. She always came back knocked up too. Usually the two of them would only be gone a few hours or a couple days at the most. One winter, however, one didn't come back for a month. We had thought she would never come back because it was freezing, but she did find her way.

Beyond what you've done, I don't have any recommendations. Good luck!

I don't have any advise that hasn't been given, but I know that they can sometimes be gone for a few days. I hope that someone finds him. I would definitely keep asking around though. So sorry he ran away...

Oh Cindy, I really hope he comes back home soon. What you're already doing and all the advice you've been given already sounds very sensible. I'll be thinking about you x

Aww, sorry, hope he makes his way home again soon! (((((HUGS)))))

My heart goes out to you! I freak every time someone leaves the garage door open and spend the next several minutes (hours) searching for the cat...

I'm hoping that he's simply on a sojourn and will find his way home promptly. Until then, all I can suggest is letting the neighbours know and asking them to keep an eye out.

So sorry to hear that, Cindy ! I hope your cat returns soon. I totally understand your anguish, I don't even like my cat Daisy to be out a night... Fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear this Cindy. I have lost 3 cats. One had turned up at the local rescue centre, having lost his collar. One had been knocked down, and turned up at home 10 days later, long after I had given him up. So don't give up hope, keep asking around. I do believe they really have 9 lives!

I am so sorry ;( It is hard to wait for the cat to come home. I have no advice but mine run off a couple of times and I was happy she always came back ...

Wish you all the best!

Oh Cindy, I hope he's ok. My cat is a scaredy cat so she doesn't go far but the odd time she's gone missing for a day or two - I hope he comes back soon xx

I'm so sorry! I know how sad and frightening a time that is. I had a cat disappear one me when I was a kid--she showed up again several months later, well after I'd given up hope. As an adult, I had a cat decide to live in the back yard for awhile but came back after a couple of weeks. I'll be sending lots of "found kitty" thoughts your way!

Oh, I'm so sorry, I know what you must feel. I hope he comes back.
Unfortunately I don't have any advice, but I know of a few cats that disappeared for sometimes even quite a long time and then came back.
