Are you here for the second installment of Start Your Own? Well, I am too. Sadly, I did not receive text or photos from my guest blogger so we'll have to resume next week. Its too bad because the guest blogger has a great online shop, so I would love to learn from her. Maybe some time in the future.
Let's move on, shall we?
This past weekend I had the glorious opportunity to attend the Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co Laois. Needless to say I had a fabulous time. I could go on and tell you how great Arcade Fire and Pulp were as headliners, what a lovely surprise Santigold and White Lies were and how funny Bob Geldof looks dancing, but I'll save that for another post. (I do wish you could see us dancing around like nutters at the back of the Pulp show. It was brilliant.)
What I really want to tell you about is the Green Craft Village at the center of the picnic. In this lovely area you could find tents or stands where you could learn a new skill. They had a wood turner, blacksmith, copper smith, potter...and on and on who were willing to teach you. In the WAY back corner there was a tee pee where you could make a little flower brooch. I had to jump in!
Hosted by Stitch Lilly from Co Kerry, I made this little cutie from 4 circles of cotton fabric, 4 circles of tulle and a button. Although the colors do not scream me, I am pretty happy with the result.
She also had these beauties on sale. I would absolutely LOVE to learn how to make one like this. I'll work on it.Finally, you know how you find weird quilty inspiration in odd locations? Well, I found the color scheme to my Sew Bee Blissful month (which is WAY in the future) in the wrist band. It's so pretty! Have to pull out that Kona card this weekend, ladies.

Sounds like you had a whale of a time Cindy, music, dancing and crafting, WOOOOOW.
It was a great weekend , wasn't it? We go every year and by far the most fun part is all the artsy crafty stuff going on. Did you notice the half square triangles on the main stage?
MMMmmm can't wait to get to your block of the month then - the colours are fab. Love the brooches, glad you had a great time.
Sounds like a fun event. I was thinking of making my partner a brooch a bit like the one in the second photo in the goodie swap. Could this be the first tutorial I do on my blog?
Cute makes, and sounds like you had a fab, creative time. Jxo
I'd still be in the craft tent and would have missed all the bands - sad git that I am!
Sounds like so much fun! Also love your bee block colour - as I have till next September, I'lll probably change my mind at least 10 times before then lol
I was sure I'd pinned a tutorial of how to do one of those flowers, but can't find it right now, I'll get back to you!
Crafting fair & a Pulp gig, in one place?! Wow. You lucky thing!!! Sounds fantastic :-)
Sounds brilliant - I want to see a video of the dancing!!
I love the brooches!! I am hoping one of my swap partners makes one for me :-) It sounds like a great weekend!
Oh, I'm so jealous, you lucky thing, I would LOVE to go to EP but not a runner for me at the moment unfortunately! Love your brooch, and that one you bought too. And can't wait for your Bee month with those colours :-)
I think the flower you want to make is a kanzashi. there are loads of tutorials on line, they are easy, if a little fiddly.
Try looking at
www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/tsunami_kanzashi_flower_2
and there is a series of Japanese u-tube videos on
http://www.jenminnis.com/kanzashi.html#kisetsubana
where a Japanese man makes these from silk squares about an inch across. WOW!
enjoy!
Love those brooches Cindy, am intrigued to fnd out how......
Sounds like great fun!
